4 Fall Skincare Tips For Your Best Look

As summer comes to an end and fall approaches, there is a lot to get excited about. Pumpkin spice lattes, the changing of the leaves, cozy sweaters, and of course a nice cool breeze. These things may sound like a nice relief from these hot summer months, but they aren’t exactly your skin’s new best friend.

Cold weather goes hand and hand with dryness, therefore taking the moisturizer right out of not only the air, but your skin as well.

So how do I look the best for Fall?

Fear not! Our very own licensed esthetician Kaitlin has some fall skin care tips and tricks to share with us on how we can have our flawless summer skin still looking, well, flawless!

These 4 skincare tips for fall are just a few ways on how we can keep our skin in tip-top shape as we enter into fall:

1. Add Vitamin C Into your regimen

Vitamin C has so many benefits for not only your health but your skin too! Its high acidity triggers the skin to heal itself by accelerating the production of collagen and elastin, which are both naturally occurring protein fibers that help the skin plump and firm.

Vitamin C also helps to accelerate the skin’s melanin production, which helps to reduce skin discoloration such as dark spots and hyperpigmentation.

Continuing to use Vitamin C topically, also dually works to prevent dark spots from forming while also providing a brightening agent that works to fade those brown spots without altering your natural skin’s pigmentation. Licensed Esthetician Kaitlyn’s recommendation is the  Obagi Professional-C Microdermabrasion Polish + Mask.

“Not only is this the perfect post-summer skin refresher but it’s also one of my favorite products to use before an event, like saying Thanksgiving and all those family photos! This 2-in-1 polishing mask exfoliates while infusing the skin with hydrating botanical oil and vitamin C,” says Kaitlyn.

2. The More Moisture the Better!

As fall approaches and the environment changes, moisturizing becomes more important than ever. As the moisture also starts to leave the air, it is also doing the same to your skin, so using a good, thicker moisturizer can help compensate for lack of moisture and help to retain it.

It’s a good idea to incorporate moisturizing masks into your routine as well, as they can provide hydration and help to repair the skin’s barrier that gets broken down in the dryer months. A cult classic and top favorite is the SkinCeuticals Hydrating B5 Masque

Kaitlyn shares that “this is a lifesaver as we enter the colder dryer months. I use it as a weekly leave-on treatment for deep hydration and barrier repair.“

3. Use Retinols to Restore Sun Damaged Skin

This may come as a surprise, but retinols are still very beneficial for your skin even during the colder dryer months. Retinols help to thicken the deeper layer of the skin and enhance the skin’s ability to retain water, improving fine lines and wrinkles in the process.

“Fall is the perfect time to start incorporating a retinol product into your skincare routine. The SkinMedica’s Retinol Complex renews your skin while diminishing the appearance of fine lines and sun damage. Plus it’s a time-release delivery system that minimizes irritation!” says Kaitlyn.

Be careful though, as retinols are also notorious for causing significant dryness and irritation so be sure to limit your retinol usage to just a couple times a week and always pair it with a good moisturizer. Also, avoid the sun and if you have to be outside, wear sunscreen!

4. Use Eye Creams and Lip Balm

If you don’t use these two products already, you should definitely start now. As the weather and air start to transition, the same doesn’t go for your skin. Our skin doesn’t like sudden transitions, so by adding lip and eye creams into our skin routines, they will help ease our skin into this transition.

Thick eye creams and lip balms work to deeply moisturize the skin the same as a thick moisturizer would, the only difference is that the skin those areas are a little different than the rest of the face and require an even deeper level of hydration. Dry cool weather can also bring dullness around the eyes, so a great eye cream to try is the SkinCeuticals A.G.E. Eye Complex.

This silky cream works to improve the appearance of dark circles, puffiness, fine lines, and crows feet, while also working to diffuse light around the eyes to enhance the skin’s radiance, improving the appearance of tired, dull-looking skin.
